dRAGONS cOACHES Hub

Welcome to the Brunswick Junior Football Club Coaches Hub.

Whether you're coaching for the first time or returning for another season, this page brings together the key information, requirements and resources you need to coach at the Dragons along with the YJFL compliance requirements.

The club and the kids are very grateful for your coaching in 2027. We know there is a lot of information, but we hope this page will simplify it.

step 1 - Coaching registration

All Head Coaches, Assistant Coaches and Runners are required to complete the online AFL Coaching registration and accreditation process.

  • Complete the Coaching Profile, ensuring you record the correct club, league (Yarra JFL), age group, and role.

  • Complete the 2026 Welcome Package (including the Coaches Code of Conduct)

  • Complete the online Foundation Course relevant to your team’s playing age group and gender.

Complete all steps in the online workflow before you appear as a registered coach for 2027 in PlayHQ.

step 2 - register as a club volunteer

All Head Coaches, Assistant Coaches, and Runners must be registered as a club volunteer and submit their Working with Children Check.

step 3 - attend yjfl coaching session

To coach in the YJFL all coaches are required to attend a YJFL sanctioned coaching session during the course of the season. Non-compliance may result in a sanction for the club or a suspension for the coach. (By-Laws 5.2.5)

New coaches

First-time coaches must attend a New Coach Induction session run by YJFL. These sessions cover what coaches need to understand before coaching in the YJFL. Sessions will cover rules, coaches box protocols, the coaching curriculum for all age groups (delivered by Troy Chaplin, Melbourne FC Assistant Coach), and a practical session with Mal Bangs (Tackling Technique to minimise head injury).
