Following the introduction of concussion management guidelines for the 2013 AFL season, the AFL Medical Officers Association produced guidelines for community football.

The guidelines are for trainers, first-aid providers, coaches, umpires, club officials and parents, and should be understood and followed by all parties for the benefit and welfare of players.

All Team Managers are provided with an AFL-approved ‘Pocket Concussion Recognition Tool’ (a pocket guide) and ‘Concussion Recognition & Management Guidelines for Parents’, which have been extracted from the Management of Concussion in Australian Football (With Specific Provision for Children 5–17 Years).
